When Milledgeville residents seek legal representation, they need a law firm they can trust to fight for their best interest. While the two lawyers at Burns & Burns do trial work in civil cases, like most law firms they spend most of their time trying to defuse problems. In matters of family, business, bankruptcy, probate and other matters, the attorneys at Burns and Burns have the skills and ex- perience to help local residents receive justice in their legal dis- putes. “I started my law firm in August 1988 and incorporated in 1994, and we’ve gone by our current name since 2011 when my daugh- ter joined the practice,” says Joel Burns. “We are a general practice but do not do criminal defense.” Serving clients across Middle Georgia from their office on North Jefferson Street, the pair specializes in legal services in matters of family/estate, business, real estate, probate and bankruptcy law. After Joel’s daughter, Laura Burns Scott, joined him at the firm, Burns & Burns, P.C. has been Milled- geville’s resident father-daughter legal team. A graduate of the University of Georgia and the Florida Coastal School of Law, Laura has had a unique oppor- tunity to apprentice under her father and learn the ins and outs of running her own firm. If and when Joel decides to retire, the plan is for Laura to take over the practice, and the young attor- ney hopes to help her clients however she can. “What I enjoy most about this is that we are helping people who are at their last resort,” Laura says of her clients. “They’re really at a crossroads — it’s nice to help people and see their situa- tions improve because of it.” Burns & Burns, PC Attorneys at Law 200 N Jefferson St NE, Milledgeville (478) 452-3061 205989-1 32 l 200th
