Barberitos offers fresh, fast southwestern fare
W
hen local residents and visitors find themselves in downtown
Milledgeville, they have only one place to go to for fresh, fast,
southwestern food to fill them up for the rest of the day.
“While Barberitos has been at its current location since 2007, my
brother and I have been the owners
since 2010,” says Martin Kohnen of
his brother, Philip. “We make fresh,
fast, delicious southwestern fare, in-
cluding burritos, tacos, nachos, que-
sadillas, salads, and burrito bowls.
We also cater many different types
of events from office lunches to large
parties.”
From its location on the corner of
Wilkinson and West Hancock streets,
Barberitos is a favorite of both college
students and local residents alike.
While the shop’s burritos, quesadillas,
and salads are readymade for a pre-
work bite or between meetings, Barb’s
true staple is a dish made up of just a few ingredients.
“Our most popular item is our chips and queso, or cheese dip,” says
Kohnen. “A close second is our guacamole, made fresh daily with actual
avocados. Both are popular because they’re absolutely delicious and go
great with a meal or just as an afternoon snack.”
In nearly 10 years of owning one of the
city’s most popular restaurants, Martin and
Philip have seen their business grow while
meeting some of the city’s most interest-
ing people. This summer, the brothers are
planning to begin a renovation of the store’s
interior, which will give the restaurant an
exciting new look. Although Barberitos
attracts far too many customers for the
Kohnens to meet and speak with every one,
the brothers take pride in serving some of
Milledgeville’s favorite food.
“Countless times my brother and I have
been somewhere in Milledgeville and seen
a familiar face and said, ‘Look! It’s spicy
chicken on spinach, extra lettuce, no cheese,
corn salsa, and extra fresh jalapenos’,” says
Martin. “People get a kick out of it when we
may not know their name, but know exact-
ly what they like on their burrito ... we are
incredibly honored to be a part of down-
town Milledgeville and are thankful for our
amazing customers and community.”
