Being born here is something to

time to another in an instant and seeing immediately the changes that occurred . A traveler from before the 1830s would be lost and have no idea where they are if they landed here now .

Those who moved to these mountains after the removal of the “ only true natives ” to the county , the American Indians , would be at a lost for words if they could show up now .

What would those who lived here in the Great Depression think if they traveled to this time of progress , prosperity and plenty ?

If those who lived here in 1822 and 1922 before electricity were to travel to this place now in 2022 , what would they think driving around at night ?

Scottish , Irish and English descendents were the predominant new settlers who migrated to this area in the 19th Century . Their values of determination , endurance , resourcefulness and self sufficiency were remarkable .

Equally remarkable are the characteristics of future settlers who migrated here , be it a century ago , two decades ago or just a year ago .

Union County is a great community where ninety nine and nine tenths of the population accepts everybody for who they are .

The overwhelming majority of our people view others based on their integrity , how they care for

be proud of . Making this home by choice is something to be proud of . Many who grew up here moved away to find a job and then moved back here in their retirement years . A large number have lived here their entire life .

What makes this community great is the number of people who devote their time , talent , energy , effort and more to make positive contributions to our village . We are great because just about everybody gets along in harmony .

Occasionally someone will try to play the “ I am a native ” card as if that makes them better than those with a “ I moved here from somewhere else ” card . Wonder what the time traveling native

American Indians would say about that ?

Are there occasions where an uncouth native will blackball a move-in who has contributed in a positive way to the community ? Yes , but it is a rarity .

Most natives are found to be kind and a credit to themselves and the place they live .

Union County is unique and among the greatest places in the state area to live , work and play due to a combination of three kinds of people : Those who moved here ; Those who were raised here , left and moved back ; Those who were born here and have lived here their entire life .

We ALL make up one community .
