Georgia State Represenatative Stan Gunter Wins Second Term Union County resident wins with 84.3 % of the vote Nov . 8 , 2022

Union County resident Representative Stan Gunter will keep his seat in the Georgia House of Representatives following his reelection in November 2022 . He had 84.3 % of the vote with 26,561 votes . He was first elected in November 2020 when he had 80.0 % percent with 29,195 votes .
Rep . Gunter won both times as a member of the Republican Party representing District 8 .
Rep . Gunter has served on the House Appropriations Committee , House Economic Development and Tourism Committee , and was Vice Chair of the Georgia House Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Special Committee on Election Integrity .
Asked by the Union County GA Magazine to comment on his reelection the morning after Voting Day , Rep . Gunter said , “ It means a lot to be reelected and at such a margin that I got . It is very gratifying to know the work that I am doing is noticed by the people . I am trying to do my job , look after the interest of the citizens of North Georgia and be responsive to their needs . I am looking forward to serving them in the upcoming session . I am happy that the voters have given me another opportunity to serve .”
One of the issues Rep . Gunter and fellow lawmakers faced was selecting a new Speaker of the House . David Ralston ( Fannin County ) was the 73rd Speaker of the Georgia House , a position he had held since 2010 .
“ One of the things I am looking at doing is working on legislation regarding woke district attorneys around the state to give them some consequences for the positions they hold ,” Rep . Gunter said .
Another item is defining what a ‘ ticket ’ is for sporting events .

Ticket scalping is the practice of buying and reselling event tickets by private citizens , rather than by the sponsoring venue or organization , usually at a much higher price than their face value . Laws about ticket scalping vary by state , with about 16 of the 50 states which has a law that makes scalping illegal . Seven states , including Georgia , require a special license to resell tickets .
“ The budget is a big concern as well , and we ’ ll see how that goes ,” Rep . Gunter said . “ The governor is talking about sending another billion dollars to the citizens . With inflation and the recession that goes with it , we will see if there is enough revenue to cover the budget requests of government .”
Gov . Brian Kemp won reelection in November 2022 with a significant margin , 53.4 percent , over 2,109,000 votes .
That was so huge win over his opponent , there was no controversy as four years ago .
“ Gov . Kemp has shown some outstanding leadership in unprecedented times ,” said Rep . Gunter . “ I think he will continue to represent the citizens of Georgia . That will continue to be his priority . He is not playing
politics . He is a strong leader and I look forward to serving with him .”
Rep . Gunter was asked about his greatest satisfaction of being a Georgia State Representative .
“ Helping people . I enjoy serving others ,” Rep . Gunter responded . “ I like having a say so in our government .”
Rep . Gunter wants Georgia to continue to be a great place where citizens can work , play , raise their children and educate their children .”
Before being elected as a State Representative , Gunter had retired as a Superior Court Chief Judge after serving as a judge since 2012 . Gunter became a Superior Court Judge when he was appointed to the position in the Enotah Judicial Circuit in 2012 by Gov . Nathan Deal . Gunter won election without opposition in 2014 . Gunter became Chief Judge of the Enotah Judicial Circuit in 2018 .
Prior to being a judge , Gunter served as executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys ' Council for two years , 2011-2012 .
Gunter was the Enotah Judicial Circuit District Attorney for three terms , winning elections in 1998 , 2002 and 2006 . He served as President of the District Attorneys Association of Georgia and served on the Prosecuting Attorney ’ s Council for six years .
