Logan Turnpike Mill has been a vital part of the history of Union County for 37 years .
Logan Turnpike Mill owners George and Cecilia Holland have grown significantly since acquiring the original mill in 1986 from George and Becky Rogers .
“ Their love of antique mills and fresh ground grains we found irresistible ,” said Cecilia .
George recalled when they began at the original Logan Turnpike . At Tesnatee Gap , the Logan Turnpike led from Union County across the mountain into White County .
Only foot traffic can walk across the former Logan Turnpike now , due to the Richard Russell Scenic Highway , cut through the northern roadbed of the former turnpike .
George stated their second mill was built a half-mile away from the first .
Another move was needed . The original location - known as the old Logan Turnpike Toll Road - proved difficult to find on a good day . They bought an old homestead on the banks of the scenic Nottely River on Highway 19 / 129 south of Blairsville .
The iconic Logan Turnpike Mill and store was south of the City of Blairsville on Gainesville Highway . It opened to the public in 1995 and remained there until 2016 , when the mill became too small to keep up with demand .
Adding to the demand came by way off a popular morning television show .
Featured on the national Today Show a few years ago from Union County was - Grits .
Grits was not the nickname of a person , rather a famous dish served mostly in the South .
While cooking on air , the Iron Chef mentioned “ these are Logan Turnpike Grits , they come from Blairsville , Georgia .” That one comment sparked an instant response . www . unioncountymag . com � 10th Anniversary

Even when the bump in sales from the show leveled off , the demand for the products continued to increase and the mail order business grew . Eventually ordering on the Internet was available .
The fourth and current Mill and main office is on Beasley Street . Cecilia takes care of the office at the mill while George runs the processing plant . The Hollands expanded into retail sales and Gift Shop on the Blairsville Square in 2018 , then moved to a new location on the Square in 2022 .
The Rogers attended many country fairs

grinding , a tradition carried on by George and Cecilia . They began to expand the country fair circuit to let folks know of the good nutrition and wonderful taste of freshly ground grains .
They had an antique Williams grist mill
