At 47years of age, Kerrie Mamo is a quarter way through completing her personal training course at collage and admits that whilst she has always been a very organised and punctual person, trying to work part time, study, take care of two children and her husband as well as living a healthy lifestyle, is an extremely difficult daily task.
UNIfit were lucky enough to sit down and have a chat with Kerrie whom from vast life experience can offer other students, no matter what age, advice and hope, that you can, do it all.
Tell us a little about your health and fitness history.
I was always extremely sporty when I was a kid. Growing up in street where I was the only girl, my only alternative option to talking to invisible friends was to play with the boys. I swam for 12 years training morning and night; played OZ tag, netball and pretty much any other sport you can think of.
So I have always been quite active and I think having two kids doesn’t allow you stop either. Its probably only been within the last 4 years that I have started taking it a little more seriously going to the gym and eating a little better also.
What are you currently studying?
Currently, I'm undertaking a Bachelor in
applied fitness and have almost completed my first year of three.
How do you stay motivated and keep on track?
Set a goal and keep envisioning the end result and how much goodness it will bring to your life by the time you get there.
Also By having your own goal and not comparing your self against anyone else – comparing could be detrimental to your progress so far.
Monitor your progress in sections - within a few weeks time you may feel like you haven’t seen much difference as your looking at yourself everyday in the mirror, but for someone who sees you at the start of week one and then again at the start of week 4 will notice a big difference so take
