The IRS sets the maximum dollar amount you can elect and contribute to a Flexible Spending Account ( FSA ). The 2022 annual contribution limit is - $ 2,850

We recommend reviewing how much you spend on eligible healthcare expenses every year to determine how much to elect .

FSA IRS REGULATIONS

Funds on Day 1

All of your FSA dollars are available on the very first day of the plan year . For example , if you choose to contribute $ 1,200 to your FSA , your contributions will be deducted evenly across all of your paychecks for the year , but you have access to all $ 1,200 on Day 1 ! You can use your funds for expenses incurred by you , your spouse or eligible dependents .

Changing your FSA election

In order to make changes to your election after open enrollment , you need to experience a qualifying life event .

Mental Health-- what ’ s Covered ?

There are lots of eligible items , but here is a list of less known eligible items .

• Service Animal and their upkeep

• Autism treatment , ABA and other therapy

• Treatment of Gender Identity Disorder GID ( including associated therapy and surgery costs )*

• Alcohol / Gambling Rehabilitation Treatment ( Includes lodging , fees , meals & counseling costs )*

• Therapeutic Centers for Drug Treatment ( includes lodging , fees , meals & counseling costs )*

• Special schools or residences meant as a residence to someone with a mental disability ( not a relative ’ s home )*

• Copay costs associated with doctor visits , therapy or counseling

• Coinsurance and deductible costs associated with doctor visits , therapy or counseling

• Out of pocket costs for therapy , doctor visits or treatment that exceed your allowed medical limits or visits by your group plan .

• Counseling is covered as long as it is being used to treat a diagnosis or a medical ailment .*

• Psychiatric tests and reviews as needed for new or ongoing treatment

• Braille or lip reading education , teachers or tutors that specialize in teaching these skills .

* These items would require a note of medical necessity from your medical practitioner recommending the services .
