Today, eyes hold the truths no one wants to reveal. No matter how much you try to hide something, you can never hide it in your eyes.
So I put my glasses on and watch. I watch the stories and thoughts flooding through my mind before I can even hear the painful truths behind those world-piercing eyes.
Yesterday, not one thing could be erased. I wanted to forget, but I can’t. The banging echoed in my brain, begging to be let out, but I’ve lost the key. So again, I just watch and wait, allowing myself to feel the slow and painful death I’ve always walked into with open arms.
Tomorrow, the fear of the unknown makes me ill. Not wanting to let my story play out, I try to write the story that can’t be rewritten holding the pen until my fingers bleed, melting the paper with my pitiful tears. I try to write the perfect story, when in reality, the only thing I really need is the key.
I open my eyes to see the key right in front of me laughing at me, taunting me. I can’t move. I reach out, and I miss it by a hair. The worries of my past and future keep the key in my sight at all times but never in my possession. So I sit back down, pick up that bloody pen and tattered paper, and wait. I wait for as long as I possibly can, knowing it will all be worth it in the end, and that my tired eyes can finally be put to rest.
