Vaccines.
They provided 2.8 billion vaccines last year, protecting 1/3 of the worlds children. Deadly diseases like measles, polio, tetanus, tuberculosis, diphtheria and whooping cough are all easily and cheaply preventable by vaccination. Every day, 17,000 children under five die, usually because they don’t get the health care and life-saving vaccines they need.
Disaster relief.
When disaster strikes, children are hit very hard. They often lose everything. their homes, families and friends. 500, 000 children in areas where flooding is an extreme risk. In 2015 Unicef responded to 310 emergencies in 102 countries.
Protection from violence.
Every 5 minutes a child dies from violence. Children who are the victims of violence have similar brain activity to soldiers traumatised in battle. Unicef helps to protect children by setting up services to help them and their families. They also work with governments and authority groups to ensure that child protection systems are effective.
