CHAPTER SEVEN THE POWER OF PRAYER “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people” Ephesians 6:18 Paul ends this section encouraging us to pray fervently for ourselves, for each other and for the work of the Church. Ephesians 6:18-20 “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” Each one of us, moves forward on our knees. Praying reminds us of the battle, reminds us of the source of our strength and defense, and reminds God that we are fully committed to following Him as obedient and faithful soldiers. Your time spent in prayer and supplication in the Spirit, is the final weapon. Prayer covers and clothes us like a mantle. The time has never been more critical for believers to be armed and ready with the spiritual weapons that God has provided! I cannot emphasize this enough. Prayer and Bible study are the most powerful tools for combating Satan’s weapons. When we put on this whole armor of God, we will be prepared for Satan’s attempts to attack us with pride, envy, lust for forbidden pleasures, itching ears, disappointment, discouragement, doubt or division—or any other tricks he may use. Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 10:16 that “I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.” Spiritual struggles and attacks of the enemy are inevitable for the Christian, but God has provided His protection. Philippians 4:6 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Since we don't always know how to pray as we should, if we have the Spirit in us and are led by that Spirit, Paul says "the Spirit" will make intercession for us. This means that although we do not always know exactly what we should be praying for, God knows our hearts by living in us. 21
