Understanding Loneliness | Page 28

A Spiritual Perspective on

God created us to live in community with one another. To love and care for each other. He wants us to “be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves…..To practice hospitality. To rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. To live in harmony with one another.” (Romans 12:10-15)

However, when that community is lacking in our lives for a season and we feel lonely, it is important for us to know that we are never truly alone. God promises to never us abandon us (Deuteronomy 31:6) and to always be with us and strengthen and help us and uphold us (Isaiah 41:10). If you are facing a season of feeling isolated, lean on God. Learn to trust him through prayer and reading the Bible. Welcome His presence in your life.

Satan will use times loneliness to fill our heads with lies about our worth and value, and steal our hope for our future. But Jesus says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) God also promises us HOPE even in the midst of loneliness, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
