Here are some emotions you may be feeling. Perhaps this list will help you put words to what you are feeling:

Shock – especially if you were not expecting the

divorce

Anger – either directed at your parents or at no one

specifically

Sadness

Guilt – you feel like the divorce is your fault

Anxiety – worrying about the future and who is going to

take care of you

Fear – afraid of losing a parent

Embarrassed – you do not want people to know that

things in your family are changing

Depressed

Helpless or Powerless

Rejected

Distrustful

Lonely - no one who understands what you’re going

through.

Distracted

It’s difficult to trust God

A longing for closure

Relief – there is less tension at home
