Encourage your friend to talk with a professional. Let them know that you are always here to talk, but you may also want to encourage them to find a trustworthy counselor to meet with. Abandonment is a difficult topic that often uncovers other issues, which a counselor is trained specifically to handle.

Be there for them, even in the rough times. Dealing with abandonment and related issues can be an emotionally raw time for that person. Stay positive and prove that you aren’t going to abandon them.

Stay connected. Even if you don’t see your friend every day, check in on them often. Texts and chats are great but nothing beats hanging out in person, having conversations or doing something you both enjoy. The feeling of connection and community will go a long way in the healing process.

Share this e-book. If your friend is struggling, share this eBook with them to start a conversation or just to let them know you care.
