Summer 2014 has proven to be a season of blossoming for UGRW, as we blurred the lines between art and fashion though our programming offered to Oakland’s community of talent. June 2014 we presented our Summer show “Hardcopy” as part of Oakland Art MurMuR Saturday Stroll, in collaboration with art gallery Warehouse 416.
UGRW appreciates the immense support the community has shown us to date--including being nominated 3 times for the 8th Annual Oakland Indie Awards. Our programming serves to bridges the gap towards a professional career. Purposely designed to show, and not tell; the collaborative projects offered teach participants how to create your own resources, and how to build your own professional experience. Ultimately, UGRW works to empower participants to find their answer the question of "what next" within their field of choice.
Summer 2014 is an important moment in history for UGRW. After 2 years of programming without a fiscal sponsor, Underground Runway Scholarship is now a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the purposes of Underground Runway Scholarship are to be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Winding down Summer 2014, we strongly feel that the hardest part of the journey is behind us. UGRW leadership is well equipped for this phase of non-profit start-up mode, and has collective experience in working with, and mentoring youth. At last, Underground Runway is in a place to raise the money needed, as such the challenges we currently face are mostly irrational doubt. Easily overcome by reminding oneself that, we're all a resource to each other. Cheers to fiscal year 2014-15!
