Underground Runway Scholarship, located in Oakland CA is designed to enrich the artistic careers available to under recognized talent. The projects run by UGRW are educational and framed by fashion and artistic collaboration between high school students, college students and professionals with changing career goals. Underground Runway’s platform for unsigned talent has been utilized by students of Academy of Art University, Mills College, FIDM, San Francisco City College, Laney College, Merritt College, Berkeley City College, San Francisco State University and other local colleges. During the Fall of 2013, Underground Runway furthered these collaborative efforts through engagement with a growing community of small businesses, non-profits and social business ventures in Oakland, including Runway Style House Boutique, Earth Tribe Yoga and Vessel Gallery.
Season by season, and in respect to current trends UGRW fosters an environment that encourages a culture of intentional sharing of resources and skills. UGRW provides continuous opportunities in the form of small projects and large networked productions. This includes training in basic and advanced modeling technique, choreography for fashion show scenes, coordination of models, make-up artists, and photographers for trade for print photo shoots (portfolio work) of various concepts. UGRW oversees the results of of every aspect that goes into the making of fashion industry related events. The work behind what makes Underground Runway tick is never ending, and the creativity never fails. Underground Runway is a platform for unsigned and under recognized talent.
