• Function as a health care team member by collaborating with other health care providers and consumers in promoting the health and well-being of individuals , families and communities .
Social Work
• Think critically about social issues through a liberal arts based curriculum and a strengths-based , person-in-environment generalist social work education .
• Work with a diverse population of clients utilizing social work professional skills and knowledge as a mean to understand social and economic injustice and promote positive social change .
• Identify with and practice within the values and ethics of the social work profession with particular attention to diverse and at-risk populations in an effort to promote social and economic justice .
• Prepare students to utilize research-informed practice skills and conduct practice-informed research so they are able to further influence social policy and programs .
Independent Study
A student who desires to engage in an independent study project , one which is not available as a course in the University ’ s Catalog , must secure the sponsorship of a qualified faculty member . With the faculty member ’ s guidance , the student must prepare a course prospectus , which states the objective of the study , the method to be used in performing the study , documentation of compliance with instructional hours or alternative instructional equivalents , and the means by which the study will be evaluated . A copy of this prospectus must be signed by the student , the faculty member , the Dean of the School which houses the course , and the Provost / Vice President for Academic Affairs ( or designee ) prior to the student ’ s registration .
The number of credits received for independent study must be counted within the maximum credit load allowed , unless additional credits are approved ( see the Catalog for the course-load policy ). When the student successfully completes the project , the faculty member will enter a final grade and the credit ( s ) will be applied to the student ’ s academic plan and transcript .
Directed Study
A student who desires to engage in a directed study course , one which is listed in the University ’ s Catalog but not offered on the course schedule during the semester in which the student needs to register for it , must work with a qualified faculty member in the discipline to complete the required application for approval . The application , accompanied by the course syllabus ( in compliance with instructional hours ), must be signed by the student , the faculty member , the Dean of the School which houses the course , and the Provost / Vice President for Academic Affairs ( or designee ) prior to the student ’ s registration .
The directed study must be counted within the maximum credit load allowed , unless additional credits are approved ( see the Catalog for the course-load policy ). When the student successfully completes the course , the faculty member will enter a final grade and the credit ( s ) will be applied to the student ’ s degree audit and transcript .
Final Examinations
Final examinations , for courses that require them , are held at the end of each semester / session unless exceptions are granted by the Vice President for Academic Affairs . No student is excused from these
