PSY-212 Counseling & Communication Skills ( 3 ) The course is an integrated theory and practice approach to the study of communication styles , communication skills , basic counseling skills and elements of helping relationships . Students will explore the nature and dynamics of the helping encounter , develop interpersonal communication skills , and engage in opportunities for skill development through peer helping practice sessions . Prerequisites : PSY-100 , PSY-200 or PSY-202 ( Required , Previous ).
PSY-221 Child Psychology ( 3 ) Study of the successive stages of growth and development from conception through adolescence : social , emotional , intellectual , moral , perceptual , behavioral , and physical development . Prerequisites : PSY-100 ( Required , Previous ).
PSY-222 Adolescent Psychology ( 3 ) Learning and personality theory of adolescent period ; emphasis on problems arising out of physical development , sensory changes , mental growth and emotional maturity . Prerequisites : Take one of the following courses : PSY-100 , PSY-200 or PSY-221 ( Required , Previous ).
PSY-246 Issues in Gerontology ( 3 ) Survey of current social issues regarding the aging population . Topics such as social needs , delivery of services , legislation , advocacy , and ethics and legal issues will be covered . Prerequisites : PSY-100 ( Required , Previous ).
PSY-260 Death and Dying ( 3 ) Survey of dying as a social act ; examination of selected topics ; social concepts and attitudes on death and dying ; social methods of dealing with death , effects of death on social groups , demographic concepts , euthanasia , legal aspects . Prerequisites :
PSY-285 Therapeutic Activities for the Elderly ( 3 ) This course is designed to acquaint students with various forms of activities structured to meet the physical , social , and intellectual needs of the aging population . Prerequisites : PSY-100 ( Required , Previous ).
PSY-299 Selected Topics in Psychology ( 3 ) This course provides students the opportunity to explore topics selected by the instructor . Course may be repeated if the topic changes . Prerequisites :
PSY-300 Addictions , Dynamics and Interventions ( 3 ) An introduction to the psychological , sociological and physiological dynamics of abuse , dependency , and addictions and an overview of counseling intervention models designed to help the student identify and become familiar with current counseling approaches in the treatment of addictions . May be taken for sociology credit .
