HIS-250 Contemporary World ( 3 ) This course offers a survey of fundamental developments in world history from 1945 to the present . Topics include the Cold War years , economic affluence in the West and Japan , and the struggle of non- Western nations for political independence and economic prosperity . Prerequisites :
HIS-270 History of Nazism ( 3 ) This course examines the period of Nazi control in Europe and its impact on world history during the period 1933-45 . Topics include : the post-war circumstances that gave rise to Nazism ; the nature of National Socialism as an ideology and political movement ; the personality and role of Adolf Hitler as leader of Nazism and Nazi Germany ; German society under Nazism ; the Second World War ; and the Holocaust . Prerequisites :
HIS-272 Literature of War ( 3 ) This course explores how political ideas have been expressed through a variety of literary forms from the Renaissance to the present day . Students analyze the historical context that underlay prominent works of political writing and the choices made by authors in composing them . Prerequisites :

HIS-322 Irish History ( 3 ) This course explores Irish history and culture from prehistory to the present . Topics addressed include : pre-historic and Celtic Ireland ; the impact of Christianity on Irish society ; the Viking and Angelo-Norman influence ; English conquest and dominance ; political movements and resistance during the 18th and 19th centuries ; the famine and diaspora ; independence and partition ; and the sources of conflict and prospects for conciliation in Northern Ireland .
