This is the first course in the core curriculum and will transition students into the Gwynedd Mercy University community . It has three main goals : fostering the development of academic skills , educating students in the Mercy tradition and the mission of the University , and supporting the positive growth of interpersonal and social skills , all of which are necessary for success in the collegiate environment . In addition , this course introduces students to the concept of service to society reflective of the Mercy charism . Finally , FYE 1000 seeks to develop student engagement with academic and co-curricular programming throughout the University ; therefore , students will be required to attend approved events on campus . Students are required to attend the first class meeting which is held during New Student Orientation .
Prerequisites : FYE-1001 First Year Experience Service ( 1 ) As part of the FYE program , this course nurtures student development for service to society within the Mercy tradition through participation in a service activity and a guided written reflection . In addition , the course emphasizes leadership , research , collaboration , and oral communication skills , as well as fosters social and personal responsibility . Prerequisites : FYE-1000 ( Required , Previous ).
Geography
GEO-100 Political Geography ( 3 ) The political significance of contemporary world patterns of nations and states is considered through the interaction of their physical , economic and cultural aspects . Prerequisites :
GEO-101 Cultural Geography ( 3 ) The interrelationships of geography , cartography and culture are explored through a study of population , migration , language , religion , social customs and political and economic development . We will examine what role these interrelationships have played in modern geography . Prerequisites :
Health Administration HA-301 Health Care Delivery Systems ( 3 ) Introductory course in medical care organization . The health care system will be examined in terms of primary and secondary providers , financing mechanisms and the health services consumer . Current legislation and future trends in the medical field will be analyzed . Prerequisites :
HA-302 Health Care Administration ( 3 ) This course will examine major issues of health care as it pertains to the management of health service organizations and health systems . Particular emphasis is placed on team building and increased awareness of professionalism in health care . Prerequisites :
HA-312 Health Planning ( 3 ) Intensive , in-depth examination of " real world " medical care organization topics and problems . Emphasis on the development of health planning and policy strategies and their implementation . Prerequisites :
