BIO-114 Human Genetics ( 3 ) This course for non-science-major students investigates normal patterns of inheritance and their biologic basis as well as how genetic abnormalities results in inborn genetic disorders . The course will additionally emphasize the important social , political , legal and ethical issues raised by genetic technology . 3 lecture hours per week . Offered in alternate fall semesters . Not accepted as credit towards the biology major
BIO-115 Biology of Aging ( 3 ) Topics include theories of aging , discussion of organ systems of the body from the standpoint of the normal functions and specific age-related changes and disorders , as well as needs of the older adult . 3 lecture hours per week . Not accepted as credit towards the biologymajor .
BIO-121 Microbiology for the Health Sciences ( 3 ) An integrated lecture and laboratory course utilizing case studies to introduce students in the health sciences to the world of microorganisms and issues they may face involving microbes in the field of health care . Topics will include the structure and function of microorganisms , their growth and control , as well as their role in infection and human resistance and immunity . Basic handling and identification of microorganisms will be discussed in the laboratory component . For non-biology majors only . 3 lecture hours per week and 5 laboratory sessions / recitations per semester . Not accepted as credit towards the biology major .
BIO-203 General Biology I ( 3 ) An introduction to life science designed as a molecular investigation into living things , beginning with the cell . Cellular chemistry , structures and functions will be addressed . Physiological processes such as respiration and photosynthesis are discussed , as are the molecular aspects of cell division , genetics and
