Communication COMD-115 Introduction to Digital Communication ( 3 ) This course explores digital and social media as systems of communication that have emerged and continue to evolve . Students will explore how consumers use social media as a means to communicate , create communities , gather information , consume news , and create identities . Concepts related to digital divide , privacy , and other social issues will be discussed . The course will survey a range of formats used within business and social justice contexts , including blogs , podcasts , video , and other forms of content .
COMD-200 Digital Analytics & Visualization ( 3 ) Students will explore digital analytics , big data , and data visualization while earning a Google Analytics certification . Hands-on projects will focus on campaign tracking , tagging , web traffic measurement , dashboards and more . Opportunity to earn Google Analytics Certification .
COMD-201 Mobile Content Creation ( 3 ) Students are introduced to the creation of visual and audio content for use on social and digital media platforms utilizing the same smart phone they use everyday . Basic skills such as framing , composition , audio quality and website development will be covered in theory and with hands-on application . Students will host projects on their own websites . COMD-206 Public Relations ( 3 ) This course covers the development of the public relations industry from its historical beginnings to contemporary application , including the relationship between theory and practice . While reviewing many specific areas of the field including media relations and crisis communication , the course highlights the core of utilizing public opinion and persuasion , as well as the arena of strategic counsel . COMD-217 Digital Media Culture & Society ( 3 ) Students will explore the relationship between digital media and culture , domestically and in the global setting . Topics include convergence , mobile media , digital gaming , journalism , augmented reality and globalization . Opportunity to earn Twitter Flight Deck Certification Prerequisites : ENG-101 ( Required , Previous ).
COMD-218 Policy & Regulation ( 3 ) Media policy and regulation will be covered in the context of the first amendment , public interest , licensing , ownership , privacy , digitalization and global pressures . Prerequisites : COMD-217 ( Required , Previous ).
COMD-300 Strategies / Tactics Digital / Social Media ( 3 ) Building on strategic communication and business objectives , students will explore online strategies and tactics across platforms . Hands-on assignments will address building awareness and social communities as well as e-commerce and conversion . Projects will be incorporated into students ' online digital portfolios .
