CHM-116 Chemistry for Health Professions II ( 3 ) An introduction to organic and biological chemistry for students of the health professions . Topics include the structure , properties and reactions of organic compounds , carbohydrates , lipids , proteins , and nucleic acids , enzyme activity and metabolic pathways and the storage and transmission of genetic information . CHM-152L Principles of Chemistry II ( 1 ) Laboratory investigations of properties of solutions , chemical kinetics and chemical equilibrium emphasizing techniques of quantitative analysis , including both traditional gravimetric and volumetric methods and instrumental methods of spectrophotometry and chromatography . 3 laboratory hours per week . CHM-203 Organic Chemistry I ( 1 ) An introduction to the molecular structure and reactivity of carbon-based compounds . Emphasis is given to the relationships between molecular structure and chemical and physical properties . Topics include theories of chemical bonding , isomerism and stereochemistry , IR and NMR spectroscopy , and the mechanisms of fundamental reactions ( i . e ., substitution , elimination , addition ). 3 lecture hours and 1 recitation hour per week .
