As a student, Chin Loong was involved in the installation of the University’ s biodiesel pilot plant and the development of a filtration system to pre-treat waste cooking oil. He also built a water circulatory cooling system that reduced operational costs by 65 % and saved up to 1300 litres of water a day. The system eliminated the reactor’ s reliance on an external water source and is now used in 11 small-scale reactors in Monash’ s chemical engineering lab.
