What ’ s this course about ?
From Southsea Castle to D-Day landing craft , the island city of Portsmouth is a gateway to world history . It ’ s the ideal place to create your own immersive degree , with a choice of topics spanning six centuries and five continents – from gender in 16th century Europe , to the First Opium War , to race and identity in 20th century Britain and the USA . Close links with the city ’ s Historic Dockyard and its Museum and Records Service give you opportunities to explore historical artefacts , like the possessions of Tudor sailors , while you develop valued skills in research , argument and analysis .

With a central theme of ‘ changing the world ’, this interdisciplinary course will equip you to address global challenges including social justice , inequality and migration . You ’ ll explore the impact of key moments in global politics to understand how they have shaped the world we live in today . By retracing historic and contemporary political and social conflicts , revolutions and protest movements , you ’ ll make sense
