Dual Degree

ALTERNATIVES TO A single honours degree .

At Portsmouth , you have more options than simply studying one subject for three years . Some of our courses allow you to explore multiple subjects . Others let you extend your studies at a partner university , or take a foundation year before a three-year course .
COMBINED HONOURS DEGREE
A combined honours degree allows you to study two subjects in depth .
You apply for a named combined honours degree course , e . g . BSc ( Hons ) Criminology and Cybercrime , and study two complementary disciplines in one academically coherent course .
DUAL DEGREE
You graduate with two degrees in less time than it takes to study them separately : one from the University of Portsmouth , and another from a partner institution , usually overseas .
Studying abroad , and exploring more modules than on a single honours degree , will help you stand out in a competitive job market . Our dual degrees typically last 3.5 or 4 years full time .
Our current dual degrees are :
• BSc ( Hons ) Biomedical Science with Human Biosciences ( page 46 )
• BSc ( Hons ) Counter Terrorism , Intelligence and Cybercrime ( page 31 )

PATHWAY DEGREE *
You study a core subject in depth , with the option to add a complementary subject during your second and third years . A pathway degree gives you the flexibility to choose from a range of subjects after your first year of study .
You apply for a single honours degree , e . g . BA ( Hons ) Early Childhood Studies , which offers pathway options . For your first term , you study that subject exclusively . If you want to take a pathway option in year 2 , you then choose your second , ‘ minor ’ subject from a set list of alternatives . In January of year 2 , you decide whether to continue your pathway into year 3 or finish it at the end of year 2 . If you continue with your chosen pathway to the end of your course , you graduate with your single honours degree ‘ with ’ your chosen pathway subject , e . g . BA ( Hons ) Early Childhood Studies with Psychology .

* These pathway programmes are delivered in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and are not to be confused with the pathways run by the International College Portsmouth ( ICP ).
