Course structure
• Foundation science studies in bioorganic and medicinal chemistry , physical chemistry and physiology will underpin further studies in your chosen specialisation .
• Pharmaceutical science provides you with practical and theoretical skills and knowledge of your specialisation .
• Applied project is where your studies in parts A and B culminate in a major research project or an industry placement .
Areas of study
• Drug discovery biology is the understanding of what causes diseases and how medicines treat them . You ’ ll identify new biological targets for novel drug development .
• Medicinal chemistry is about designing new bioactive molecules and their development into potential medicines to prevent , treat or cure disease .
• Formulation science is about the principles of designing pharmaceutical products for optimal delivery of medicines . You ’ ll learn how to formulate active pharmaceutical ingredients to achieve their therapeutically relevant absorption and effect duration .
