ALTERNATIVE COURSES
Foundation degrees
Foundation degrees are higher education qualifications designed in consultation with employers . They ’ re designed to give you a broad range of professional skills and expertise , improve your career opportunities and boost your earning potential . They allow flexible methods of study , varying from two years full time , to three or four years part time . We offer Foundation degrees in Business and Management , Early Years Care and Education , and Learning Support , hosted at our partner colleges .

Short courses
Enhance your professional credentials and employability with our varied range of short courses . Keen to broaden your skills and knowledge ? Or gain accreditation in a specialist subject area ? Then you – or your employer – should consider Continued Professional Development ( CPD ).

Applicants without formal qualifications
If you don ’ t have a traditional academic background , that ’ s fine with us . We want to encourage people from all backgrounds and lived experience to join our one-of-akind community .
You can demonstrate talent and potential through routes other than formal qualifications like A levels and BTECs . Our Admissions staff can advise you on the following pathways to higher education :
Access courses
Want to study at university but left school without the necessary qualifications ? An Access to Higher Education ( HE ) course will give you all the knowledge and skills you need to progress to a degree .
Courses usually take one year to complete but you can take them on a part-time basis instead . In England and Wales , most Access to HE courses are delivered in further education colleges .

Mature students

Foundation year ( Year 0 )
Maybe you don ’ t have A levels in the required subjects , you didn ’ t get the grades , or your qualifications are not recognised ? A foundation year ( also known as a ‘ year zero ’) is a different way into university . It will give you the knowledge you need to move on to the first year of a regular degree programme .
