ONE SUBJECT
Single honours degree
In a single honours degree , you study one subject in depth for the duration of your course .
How it works
You apply for a named single honours degree You can take modules from other subject areas , and they will be mentioned in your degree transcript , but the title of your degree will only refer to the main subject , e . g . BA ( Hons ) Architecture
TWO SUBJECTS
Combined honours degree
A combined honours degree allows you to study two subjects in depth .
How it works
You apply for a named combined honours degree course , e . g . BSc ( Hons ) Criminology and Cybercrime You ’ ll study two different but complementary disciplines in one academically coherent course
PATHWAY DEGREE *
We offer some pathway degrees in Humanities and Social Sciences subjects . In a pathway degree , you study a core subject in depth and add another complementary subject during your second and third years .
How it works
You apply for a single honours degree , e . g . BA ( Hons ) Early Childhood Studies , which offers pathway options For your first term , you study that subject exclusively In January of year 1 you can choose to take a pathway option in year 2 If you want to take a pathway option , you choose your second , ‘ minor ’ subject from a set list of alternatives You will study some elements of your minor subject during a year 1 module , so you ’ ll have had some preparation by the time you start your pathway in year 2 In January of year 2 , you decide whether to continue your pathway into year 3 or finish it at the end of year 2 If you continue with your chosen pathway to the end of your course , you graduate with your single honours degree ‘ with ’ your chosen pathway subject , e . g . BA ( Hons ) Early Childhood Studies with Psychology

DUAL DEGREES
This option allows you to gain two Bachelor ' s degrees in less time than it takes to study them separately .
You ' ll graduate with two certificates : one from the University of Portsmouth , and another one from a recognised partner institution , which is usually overseas .
You ’ ll study more modules than on a single degree , developing a more comprehensive knowledge of your subject . You ’ ll also gain an understanding of different cultures , which helps you work more effectively with people from different backgrounds .
All of this helps you stand out in a competitive job market after you graduate .
Dual Bachelor ’ s degrees typically last 3.5 or 4 years when you study full time , compared to 3 years for a single degree .
They ’ re not the same as joint degrees , where you study with two or more universities and graduate with a single certificate signed by all institutions .
