You can demonstrate talent and potential through routes other than formal qualifications like , A levels and BTECs . Our admissions staff can advise you on the following pathways to higher education .

Foundation year ( Year 0 )
Maybe you don ’ t have A levels in required subjects , you didn ’ t get the grades , or your qualifications are not recognised ? A foundation year ( also known as a ‘ year zero ’) is a different way into university . It will give you the knowledge you need to move on to the first year of a regular degree programme .

Mature students
Over 21 and without formal qualifications ? You may still get a place on a degree course at Portsmouth .

Access courses
Want to study at university but left school without the necessary qualifications ? An Access to Higher Education ( HE ) course will give you all the knowledge and skills you need to progress to a degree . Courses usually take one year to complete but you can take them on a part-time basis instead . In England and Wales , most Access to HE courses are delivered in further education colleges .
