Neuroscience and Psychology
BSc (Hons)
Why study this course?
This popular combination integrates the molecular and anatomical aspects of
neuroscience with the more holistic and behavioural approach of psychology.
You will choose from a variety of modules, spanning research methods, the
nervous system and its component parts, how it develops and what happens
when it goes wrong.
You will be challenged with exciting ideas and findings from psychology
and neuroscience. In Psychology, you will study social and developmental
psychology, cognitive and biological psychology and research methods.
In Neuroscience you learn about the nervous system, its various
components and how they work, and how they are affected by disease.
In your final year you will carry out a research project in each subject
under the expert guidance of an academic staff member. Examples
include the psychological impact of pain, assessing effects of direct eye
contact on physiological responses in people with autism characteristics,
using cell culture as a transplant therapy, using an electron microscope
to investigate cell structure. You’ll benefit from a supportive environment
as well as fantastic lab facilities and equipment. There is an option to
undertake a laboratory placement year in your third year as a part of the
Neuroscience component of your degree.
What will this mean for my future?
The psychology modules on this course are accredited by the British
Psychological Society, a necessary first step for many professional

students for these psychology careers as well as careers in teaching,
research, scientific civil service, civil service, IT, journalism and others.

have the added benefit of significant work experience to offer employers.
