Why study this course?
This combined degree programme offers you the opportunity to benefit
from the synergies between technology and creativity in these two contemporary
and cutting-edge subjects, both of which equip you for careers in our digital,
media-rich world. There are interesting intersections between computing and
music throughout this exciting subject combination.
For the Computer Science element of the course you can study areas
such as A.I., animation and multimedia, computer games development,
human-computer interaction, software engineering and security.
Students can develop specialisms in information systems, smart
systems, or creative computing. Our teaching is informed by our cutting-
edge research and we also reflect current development in the industry.
Led by inspiring creative practitioners and researchers, Keele’s Music
Technology degree enables you to engage with composition, music
production, sound design, screen music, audio-visuals and music
software development. You will study many different styles and genres,
inventing, capturing, recording, mixing and manipulating sounds and
music content using advanced digital media.
For both subjects, you’ll have access to 24/7 purpose-built labs, music
studios and practice rooms, and to an extensive music library and
repository of digital media assets and tools.
What will this mean for my future?
Our Computer Science degree leads into careers such as programming,
web/app development, interface design and software engineering.
Recent Keele graduates have gone to work for companies as diverse
as Apple, BAE Systems, Bentley, Barclays, BBC (iPlayer), EA Games,
Experian, Microsoft and the Ministry of Defence. Career paths open to
Keele Music Technology graduates include broadcasting, production,
soundtrack creation, software design or teaching. You will acquire the
skills to diversify your income stream with a variety of professional
tasks such as audio and video editing, music post-production, studio
engineering and composition of music content for film, TV and
videogames. You may also choose to pursue postgraduate study.
