Business Management and Media
BA (Hons)
Why study this course?
You will acquire a solid understanding of how business enterprises work in
tandem with popular media and culture. You will develop a range of theoretical,
practical and creative skills by learning how organisations operate and achieve
success, and by building your understanding of communication techniques and
global information flows.
The Business Management and Media programme at Keele combines
learning about the practicalities of business management with critical
insights into the power of media. By looking closely at phenomena
such as advertising and social networking, you will learn how these
can influence individuals and societies. You will pay particular attention
to how media, culture and creative practice works in the context of
management, looking at how businesses operate in terms of marketing,
finance and human resource management, as well as how they interface
with social, cultural and political contexts. In particular, you will
understand how businesses communicate with their audiences, and how
they interact with, and even help to create, aspects of culture through
branding, strategy and information management. This course can be
combined with a placement year, the opportunity to study abroad and
the chance to acquire and develop skills in international languages.
What will this mean for my future?
As a graduate of this programme you should become a creative and
critical thinker, a competent practitioner of media with the skills needed
to manage production processes. You will be able to reflect on your
skills within a broader business context and possess an understanding
of the practicalities of accounting, human resources, marketing and
management.
