WORK
INTEGRATED
UNITS
The work integrated units equip our students with the skills required
to thrive in their future careers, such as leadership, communication,
problem solving, and critical thinking abilities.
These units, which take a holistic, practical approach to education,
focus on the development and application of acquired knowledge in
the working world. AMU3744, a credit-bearing internship unit which
is offered during the summer break, enables learning outside the
classroom and enhances graduate employability. The course and
assessments for AMU3575 and AMU3650 are purely project-based
and are conducted in a way that closely simulates a contemporary
workplace environment. We currently offer three units that cater to
students majoring in all areas of study.
AMU 3575 Task Force: Responding to global challenges
Working together with teammates from other fields of study (such as
communications, writing, global, gender, or film, television, and screen
studies), you will all pool your resources to draft policy, and come up with
recommendations, for the solution of a contemporary problem.
AMU 3650 A world in crisis: Multilevel responses to
global emergencies
In this unit, you will put your research, negotiation, and problem solving
skills to the test in a fast-paced international crisis simulation. Use your
team's knowledge of global politics and the media to manage the crisis and
achieve your objectives.
AMU 3744 Workplace learning internship
You are provided with an opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge with
practice, and to gain first-hand experience of working in the industry.
Through experiential learning, you will develop your understanding of
academically obtained knowledge and skills in the workplace environment
facilitated by an academic supervisor. To that end, our former students
have interned with a wide variety of companies and organisations, both
domestic and abroad.
“During my internship, I was able to witness the real
and practical issues regarding women’s rights and
health, and I was honoured to support women in crisis
by assisting social workers and through telephone
counselling. It was an invaluable and irreplaceable
experience that made me realise the importance of
advocacy and services in promoting equal rights to
women’s self-determination and control of their lives."
