Honor Societies Students of Gwynedd Mercy University are eligible for membership in the following honor societies :
1 . Alpha Alpha Alpha is the national honor society for first-generation graduate and undergraduate students . Students who are considered first-generation who have earned a minimum GPA of 3.5 for graduate and 3.2 for undergraduate may be invited to join Gwynedd Mercy University ’ s Kappa Theta Chapter .
2 . Alpha Eta is the national honor society for the allied health professions . The purpose of the honor society is the promotion and recognition of significant scholarship , leadership , and contributions to the Allied Health Professions . Students who have a GPA of 3.5 overall and 3.0 in their major are nominated by the faculty for induction into the society .
3 . Alpha Lambda Delta is the national honor society for first-year academic success . First-time , full-time term students who earn a minimum 3.5 GPA their first semester and / or earn a 3.5 cumulative GPA after their first year may be invited to join . The purpose of the honor society is to celebrate first-year academic excellence and create a community of scholars dedicated to leadership , service , and life-long learning .
4 . Alpha Phi Sigma is the international honor society for graduate and undergraduate students in the field of criminal justice . Founded in 1942 , this society recognizes students for academic excellence and community service . Students with a 3.2 GPA overall and within the major may be invited to join Gwynedd Mercy University ’ s Kappa Delta Chapter .
5 . Alpha Sigma Lambda is the national honor society for returning adult students . Its purpose is to recognize and reward the hard work , motivation , academic success , personal growth , and leadership qualities of its inductees and is housed in the Office of Academic Affairs .
6 . Kappa Delta Pi is an international honor society in education . It is the oldest and largest honor society in education . Invitations to join are based on academic achievement , a commitment to education as a career and a professional attitude that assures the member ’ s steady growth in the field of education .
7 . Lambda Beta is the national honor society for the profession of Respiratory Care . This honor is conferred by the program faculty to students that exemplify superior academic achievement ( top 25 % of their class ) and exceptional professional growth and leadership .
8 . Lambda Iota Tau is an international honor society for students of literature . Its purpose is to reward and encourage excellence in literary scholarship in colleges and universities . To be eligible , a student must major or minor in a department offering literature and all courses prerequisite thereto and rank scholastically in the upper 35 percent of his or her class .
9 . Lambda Nu is a national honor society for the radiologic and imaging sciences . Its objectives are to : foster academic scholarship at the highest academic levels , promote research and investigation in the radiologic and imaging sciences and recognize exemplary scholarship . Students who have a GPA of 3.5 overall are nominated by the faculty for induction into the society .
10 . Phi Alpha is the international honor society for social work . The purpose of Phi Alpha Honor Society is to provide a closer bond among students of social work and promote humanitarian goals and ideas . Phi Alpha fosters high standards of education for social workers and invites into membership those who have attained excellence in scholarship and achievement in social work .
11 . Phi Alpha T h e t a is the International History Honor Society . Gwynedd Mercy University ’ s chapter , Tau Omicron , was installed on October 29 , 1972 . To recognize and encourage excellence in the study of history , the society honors students who have earned B or better in all history courses and maintained at least a 3.0 ( B ) quality point average .
12 . Pi Theta Epsilon is a specialized honor society for occupational therapy students and alumni . Its mission is to promote research and scholarship among occupational therapy students . Occupational therapy students who rank in the top 35 % of their class and hold a minimum of a 3.5 overall GPA are invited to
