The Psychology of Non-Violence
This SERVICE-LEARNING course presents the issues of interpersonal ( domestic / sexual ) and intrapersonal ( self-injury / suicide ) violence through a psychological lens with a special focus on mental health , social justice , advocacy for affected populations , and strategies for the promotion of NONVIOLENCE , a Critical Concern of the Sisters of Mercy . Students will engage in discussion , research related topics , participate in mandatory violence prevention training , and work with community partners ( on and off campus ) to create and implement community action / advocacy plans to promote nonviolence . NOTE : To fulfill the requirements of the course , students will engage in a minimum of 12 meaningful direct or indirect service hours in support of populations affected . This course meets the University ' s definition of writing intensive . Pre-Requisite : Successful completion of ENG 101 .
