Admission to the MLT-to-MLS program is open to graduates of a medical laboratory technician ( MLT ) program who have obtained their MLT ( ASCP ) certification ( or equivalent ). Additional criteria for eligibility for admission with advanced standing to Gwynedd Mercy University are described in this catalog in the Admissions section . Application may be made for this program as a full-time or part- time student . Upon acceptance to Gwynedd Mercy University , the student will begin course work to fulfill the baccalaureate degree requirements . The degree requirements include the academic requirements of the University , as well as the upper-level science and health science courses . Students are required to attend a NAACLS approved affiliate School of Medical Laboratory Science and are not exempt due to the previous study in medical laboratory technology .
All students seeking admissions to affiliate programs for the major must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.8 overall and 2.5 in science . Students must go through the admission process required to be admitted to the hospital based NAACLS accredited affiliate School of Medical Laboratory Science . The hospital based NAACLS accredited affiliate School of Medical Laboratory Science is independent from the University . Admission is competitive and the University cannot guarantee admission . Course requirements are the same as listed under Medical Laboratory Science .
Internal transfer students seeking to enter the program will indicate interest to the Campus Coordinator who will review their transcripts and any other information available and applicable . The student seeking transfer shall have an overall GPA of not less than 2.8 and grades in science and math not less than an average of a B . The Campus Coordinator will determine if the student can transfer into this program of study .
External transfer students seeking to enter the program will apply through Admissions . The student seeking transfer shall have an overall GPA of not less than 2.8 and grades in science and math not less than an average of a B . Applicable courses in science must not be older than seven years at the anticipated entrance date to the affiliate program to be eligible for transfer . The prospective student must take 45 credits minimum at the University to be eligible for the degree . Admissions will consult with the Campus Coordinator to determine acceptance . The registrar will evaluate courses for transfer .

Academic Standards / Grade Requirements and Progression for Medical Laboratory Science :
Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.8 overall and a 2.5 average in science and math . If either the overall GPA or science and math GPA falls below these standards , the student will be placed on program probation . Should the GPA remain below these standards for a second semester , then the student will be dismissed from the MLS program . All grades in science , math and the major must be “ C ” or above . For any grade below a “ C ” ( not a C- ) in a science course , math course or a major course , the student will have one opportunity , for one course only , to repeat the course . The student will be placed on program probation . Any subsequent grade below a “ C ” in a science , math or a major course will result in the student being dismissed from the MLS program .
