Gwynedd Mercy University is test-optional , which means students may apply with or without submitting scores from the ACT or SAT . However , students applying to the programs listed below who choose not to submit SAT or ACT test scores also must :
• Submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher in a subject related to their desired major ( e . g ., a biology teacher if the student is seeking admission to GMercyU ’ s Biology program )
• Schedule an in-person or virtual interview with a member of the GMercyU Admissions team . Biology ( as requested ) Education ( if cumulative GPA is lower than 3.0 )* Occupational Science *

Nursing applicants who are admissible to the University but choose not to submit SAT or ACT scores will be admitted to the Health Studies program . Health Studies students will work with professional advisor and prepare to take the TEAS ( Test of Essential Academic Skills ) during their first year to gain admission to the BSN program . Nursing applicants who choose to submit SAT or ACT scores must have earned at least 1070 on the SAT ( 570 Math and 500 Reading ) or a 20 on the ACT ( 19 Math ).
NOTE : Other applicants may be asked to submit an essay or personal statement and / or be asked to
participate in an interview during the application review process . Letters of Recommendation are not required for other programs but are recommended .
• Evidence of English Language Proficiency : Minimum test score of 79 on the Internet- based TOEFL or 6.0 on the IELTS test or the equivalent . TOEFL or IELTS scores lower than the minimum will be considered on a case-by-case basis .
• Students whose native language is English are not required to submit language scores . In addition , international applicants who score a minimum 500 evidence-based reading and writing score on the SAT or 22 composite score on the ACT are exempt from submitting TOEFL scores .
• A course-by-course evaluation by World Education Services ( www . wes . org ), Educational Credential Evaluators ( www . ece . org ) or SpanTran : The Evaluation Company ( https :// spantran . com / web /) is required of all transcripts from high schools and universities outside of the United States .
• All international students who do not have transferrable college credit for English and mathematics are required to take the University ’ s English and mathematics placement assessments . Students must be proficient enough to place into Developmental Writing or College English .
• Applicants who have had nursing education outside of the U . S . must have transcripts evaluated by CGFNS ( www . cgfns . org ).
• * International students who apply to education , nursing and other programs that require background checks must have the ability to obtain the background screening required for placement in a clinical / school setting and should review state licensure requirements before choosing to enroll . These background screenings require a U . S . social security number . 47
