Technology Requirements : Students must have a laptop with camera capability for all portions of the Program . All students are provided with the university ’ s laptop specifications prior to the start of the professional phase of the program .
RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY
Degree : Bachelor of Science Program Type : Term Program Program Modality : On-Ground Program . The majority of the instruction is to students through on-ground , face-to-face meetings with the flexibility for instruction in other modalities . Program Coordinator : Joy Fox
Program Description : The Radiologic Technologist or radiographer is an individual who uses imaging equipment to perform diagnostic imaging ( x-ray ) procedures as ordered by physicians . They are health care specialists who can also perform advanced modality procedures such as CT , MRI , mammography , and interventional radiology as well as education , research and other related fields with additional education or training .
As a radiologic technologist , one can work in a variety of health care settings including : hospitals , doctors ’ offices , clinics and outpatient centers as well as continuing their education after graduation . As a radiologic technologist , a professional in the health care team , graduates are responsible for proper patient care , appropriate radiation exposure and accurate radiographic positioning and procedures to ensure quality diagnostic radiographs . Graduates from this Bachelor of Science degree program can expect additional career options such as , management , applications , sales and more . The Bachelor of Science degree affords the graduate opportunities for advancement along with the skill of a registered radiologic technologist .
A student who wishes to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Technology , follows a four-year program . The first two years ( 63 ) credits are taken on the university campus . The final two years ( 59 credits ) of the Radiologic Technology program takes place in a 20-24 month program at a hospital-based Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology ( JRCERT ) approved affiliate School of Radiologic Technology ( or Radiography ). Student must apply and be accepted to one of these affiliate programs . Students are prepared to take the Examination in Radiography offered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( ARRT ) for Professional Registration .
Students enrolled in the Radiologic Technology major must complete all required Gwynedd Mercy courses before beginning the junior year of study at a hospital-based Radiologic Technology Program . The hospital-based ( JRCERT ) affiliate accredited Schools of Radiologic Technology are independent from the University . Students will be advised when application must be submitted to affiliate programs . A list of JRCERT approved affiliate Schools of Radiologic Technology can be found in the Student Handbook . Additional JRCERT accredited programs can be found at www . jrcert . org . Representatives from the hospital-based program will review the applicant ’ s grades and a personal interview will follow . Some affiliates require the student to take the TEAS assessment test . Admission is competitive and the University cannot guarantee that a student will be accepted to an affiliate program .
