PSYCHOLOGY
Description : The Psychology Program at Gwynedd Mercy University provides students with a breadth and depth of knowledge in the study of human behavior and mental processes through coursework across a wide array of topics , including social psychology , human development , child and adolescent psychology , biopsychology , abnormal psychology , personality , dementia , death and dying , counseling techniques , and interpersonal processes . Research and leadership skills are further developed through training in statistics and research methods , with opportunities for students to engage in faculty- and student-led research and to present at professional conferences . Students also complete field placements that allow them to put theory into practice , gain work experience , and network with professionals in their chosen field .
Program Student Learning Outcomes : PLO1 : Analyze from different perspectives the impact of physiology , social interaction , group situations , interpersonal relations , attitudes , opinions , and communication on human behavior . PLO2 : Identify and articulate the characteristics of normal development throughout the life span in terms of physical , cognitive , psychological , and psychosocial development . PLO3 : Identify abnormal personality development and psychopathology , as well as articulate the process of diagnosis , prognosis , and appropriate treatment of behavioral disorders . PLO4 : Understand key concepts in statistics and research methodology and be able to use their acquired knowledge and critical thinking skills . PLO5 : Engage in basic therapeutic counseling skills that allow them to interact appropriately in a supervised professional setting . PLO6 : Engage in critical thinking concerning the history of the discipline and ethical issues relevant to this evolving field of study .
