The application of principles and theory covered in RC 232 will be provided in a campus laboratory setting . Laboratory exercises will include : care and management of the patient ' s airway and extensive hands-on experiences with a variety of mechanical ventilators . Emphasis will be placed on set up , maintenance and adapting / modifying the ventilator to specific circumstances .
The student will be placed in selected clinical sites to observe , practice and become proficient in the performance of skills , procedures and / or modalities addressed in the RC 230 , RC 231 , RC 240 and RC 241 courses . The specific competencies will entail : the administration of medical gases , humidity and aerosol therapy , lung expansion therapy , chest physiotherapy , and basic physical assessment . The student will be placed in selected clinical sites to observe , practice and become proficient in the performance of skills , procedures and / or modalities addressed in the RC 230 , RC 231 , RC 240 and RC 241 . The student will continue observation , practice and competency development of administration of medical gases , humidity and aerosol therapy , lung expansion therapy , chest physiotherapy and basic physical assessment . Additionally , the student will observe , practice and develop competency in the care and management of the patient ' s airway as well as the set- up , maintenance and adapting / modifying of the ventilator to specific patient conditions and circumstances . Clinical competency of all designated procedures , skills , modalities is a requirement for graduation from this portion of the program .
