Program Description : Traditional BSN Program Option The Bachelor of Science in Nursing program ( BSN ) is a four-year program that is structured to provide a strong foundation in the liberal arts , Mercy values , and sciences and professional nursing practice . Transfer students can earn a BSN degree in 3 years if they meet eligibility requirements by transferring in 32- 45 transferable credits . Graduates from the BSN program are prepared as generalists to give direct and indirect nursing care in a variety of health care settings to individuals , families , communities , and populations . Students acquire requisite knowledge , attitudes and skills to contribute to the health care team in a variety of nursing roles such as caregiver , teacher , advocate and leader . In addition , students obtain an education based upon which graduate study for specialization in nursing may be built .
Accelerated BSN ( ABSN ) Program Option The Accelerated BSN ( ABSN ) Program for second degree students is a full-time program option that can be completed in 16 months . There are three opportunities throughout the year to begin this program : January , May , and August . The program is a 4-semester continuous ( full-time ) 16-month program .
BSN Weekend Program Option An additional option for students holding a previous bachelor ’ s degree in a field other than nursing is available . The BSN Weekend Program option can be completed every weekend year-round , starting in August , including some Fridays over three years on the Gwynedd Valley campus .
Preparation for a Professional License : Graduation from Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program meets the requirements for the student to apply to take the NCLEX-RN . S . citizenship or permanent residency is a requirement for licensure within certain academic programs . Students who are under DACA status or are undocumented should carefully review the licensure requirements before enrolling in a degree program that leads to licensure . Program Learning Outcomes : PLO1 : Synthesizes knowledge of nursing and the liberal arts and sciences as a basis for professional nursing practice . PLO2 : Utilizes professional judgment to formulate nursing decisions which reflect professional standards consistent with moral and ethical and legal principles . PLO3 : Engages in reflective evaluation of self and other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the prevailing standards of care . Collaborates with other healthcare providers and consumers in promoting the health and well-being of individuals , families , and communities . PLO4 : Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the use of the nursing process to deliver person centered care . PLO5 : Utilizes inter and intra professional communication and collaboration skills to deliver evidencebased care to promote the health and safety of individuals , families , and communities . PLO6 : Applies leadership concepts , skills , and values to effectively implement patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in a variety of healthcare settings . PLO7 : Creates a supportive environment through the therapeutic use of self when caring for individuals , families , and communities .
