PSYCHOLOGY
Description : The Psychology Program at Gwynedd Mercy University provides students with a breadth and depth of knowledge in the study of human behavior and mental processes through coursework across a wide array of topics , including social psychology , human development , child and adolescent psychology , biopsychology , abnormal psychology , dementia , death and dying , counseling techniques , and interpersonal processes . Research and leadership skills are further developed through training in statistics and research methods , with opportunities for students to engage in faculty- as well as student-led research and to present at local , regional , and national conferences . Students also complete field placements that allow them to put theory into practice , gain work experience , and network with professionals in their chosen field .
Program Student Learning Outcomes : PLO1 : Analyze from different perspectives the impact of physiology , social interaction , group situations , interpersonal relations , attitudes , opinions , and communication on human behavior . PLO2 : Identify and articulate the characteristics of normal development throughout the life span in terms of physical , cognitive , psychological , and psychosocial development . PLO3 : Identify abnormal personality development and psychopathology , as well as articulate the process of diagnosis , prognosis , and appropriate treatment of behavioral disorders . PLO 4 : Understand key concepts in statistics and research methodology and be able to use their acquired knowledge and critical thinking skills to a ) engage in critical analysis of original research studies in the field demonstrated through class discussion , research papers , and presentations and b ) develop and implement an original research study , including a research proposal , IRB submission / approval , gathering and analyzing data , and presenting findings in a professional setting .
