This course provides students who have completed FRE 101 and 102 or the equivalent the opportunity to explore French language , culture , Take FRE-101 FRE-102 . ( Required , literature , history and other topics as selected by the instructor . Previous ). Course may be repeated if the topic changes . Qualified advanced students may arrange independent study in areas not covered by existing courses ; analysis of literary techniques , Take FRE-101 FRE-102 . ( Required , translation , study of special aspects of major works and authors in the Previous ). field of French literature and culture . This is the first course in the core curriculum and will transition students into the Gwynedd Mercy University community . It has three main goals : fostering the development of academic skills , educating students in the Mercy tradition and the mission of the University , and supporting the positive growth of interpersonal and social skills , all of which are necessary for success in the collegiate environment . In addition , this course introduces students to the concept of service to society reflective of the Mercy charism . Finally , FYE 1000 seeks to develop student engagement with academic and co-curricular programming throughout the University ; therefore , students will be required to attend approved events on campus . Students are required to attend the first class meeting which is held during New Student Orientation .
As part of the FYE program , this course nurtures student development for service to society within the Mercy tradition through participation in a service activity and a guided written reflection . In addition , the course emphasizes leadership , research , collaboration , and oral communication skills , as well as fosters social and personal responsibility . The political significance of contemporary world patterns of nations and states is considered through the interaction of their physical , economic and cultural aspects .
