Program Admission Requirements and Procedures for Students Applying to the Traditional BSN Program Track / Option
For traditional students , admission decisions are determined according to university standards for the undergraduate admission department . The BSN program has additional criteria to promote student success . Students applying from high school must place in the top third of their class ; have completed courses in chemistry , biology , and mathematics ; submit ACT or SAT scores ; provide a recommendation letter from the high school principal , teacher , or counselor ; and meet college-level English and mathematics standards . Due to the pandemic in 2020 and for fall of 2021 , students have the option of submitting standardized test scores . Students seeking admission to the nursing program who choose not to submit standardized test scores are required to submit a letter of recommendation from a math or science teacher who can speak to their potential to succeed in the nursing program and schedule an admissions interview . Transfer Students can earn a BSN degree in 3 years if they meet eligibility requirements by transferring 32- 45 transferable credits . Summer transfer students can earn their BSN in 2 ½ years through transferring 45 transferable credits .
Any transfer applicant to the nursing program who has had science courses that are seven ( 7 ) years or older prior to beginning the nursing courses is required to take Excelsior examinations ( anatomy and physiology and / or microbiology ) or repeat the science courses to verify that the knowledge is current . A passing score of 50 is required by the science division for each exam . Excelsior science examinations are 3 credits each . Additional science credits may be needed to meet the curriculum requirements . If a student fails any of these Excelsior exams , the course ( s ) must be taken . All required science courses must have a “ hands on ” lab experience . Transferred students are required to take Chemistry 111 and its associated lab at Gwynedd Mercy University . Chemistry courses taken outside of Gwynedd Mercy University will not be transferred . Excelsior examinations in Chemistry will not be accepted .
