Academic Standards / Grade Requirements : As previously noted , students must achieve a “ C ” or better ( C- or below is not acceptable ) in all science , mathematics and respiratory care courses . Should they receive a grade below this level , they will be permitted to repeat the science or mathematics course once . Should the student receive a grade below this level in any respiratory care course , or multiple respiratory care courses within the same semester , the student will be given one opportunity to repeat the courses . Should a student receive a grade below this level in the repeated course ( s ) or any subsequent respiratory care course , the student will be dismissed from the program . Additionally , students must follow the course sequence and cannot progress to any upper-level course without satisfactory completion of prerequisite courses . Advanced standing through transfer of credit is possible and is handled on an individual basis .
Attendance Policies ( includes Lab / Clinical Attendance Policies ): Attendance in all respiratory care courses ( didactic , laboratory and clinical ) is mandatory . Excused absences are at the discretion of the faculty and specific attendance requirements will be provided in each of the course syllabus . Documentation of absences may be required .
Academic Progress , ( Probation ), and Program Dismissal : Students must follow the general policies and procedures of the university regarding academic progress , probation and dismissal . Additionally , the program requires all students to maintain a minimum grade of “ C ” in all science , mathematics , and respiratory care courses ( a “ C- of below ” is not acceptable ) in order to continue to progress in the program . A grade of “ C- or below ” requires the course be repeated and successfully passed before entering the next phase of education . This will require the student to withdraw from all respiratory care courses until he / she can repeat the course the next time the course is offered , provided there is space available . A student who fails a course in the major will be required to repeat that course and any other subsequent respiratory care course but only once . Unsuccessful performance with a repeated course in the major or a subsequent course in the major will result in dismissal from the program .
Course withdrawal policies : The program follows the course withdraw policy provided by the university .
Experiential Learning : Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from off campus experiential learning opportunities ( clinical rotations at the hospital ) and any fees associated with such travel . Additionally , students must purchase a stethoscope and scrubs as discussed during the orientation to clinical by the Director of Clinical Education ( DCE ). Clinical rotations are scheduled by the DCE and are based on availability and at the DCE ’ s discretion .
Other : Students must adhere to course sequence as outlined in the curriculum . Advancement from one level to the next is based on availability as well as recommendation of program faculty . Students matriculating at Gwynedd Mercy University will be given preference for acceptance over students transferring from other institutions based on academic performance .
