Program Learning Outcomes and Goals : Goals : * Graduates will be competent entry level radiation therapists . * Students will demonstrate critical thinking . * Students will demonstrate effective communication skills . * The students / graduates will model professionalism . Program Student Learning Outcomes : At the completion of the radiation therapy program , the graduates will demonstrate : PLO1 Empathic patient centered care ; PLO2 Application of appropriate radiation safety principles ; PLO3 Accuracy in performing radiation therapy procedures ; PLO4 Effective oral and written communication skills ; PLO5 Appropriate response to events in clinical and lab situations ; PLO6 Appropriate professional behaviors .
For Major Requirements , see Program Handbook and Curriculum Sheets : The Radiation Therapy Program has a carefully developed , approved curriculum of study . The program will follow the most recent radiation therapy curriculum published by the American Society of Radiologic Technologists ( ASRT ). Additionally , the most recent American Registry of Registered Radiographers ( ARRT ) guidelines are integrated into the curriculum . A full description of each program with the required academic courses , and the courses of the concentration of study are available in the University catalog , as well as a sample curriculum sheet for both the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Health Science degree .
Academic Criteria for Admission , Progression and Retention
Program Admissions Requirements and Procedures : Gwynedd Mercy University and the Radiation Therapy Bachelor of Science degree programs are open to all individuals of any race , color , religion , gender , age , disability , national origin , and any other protected class . The program has a rolling admission policy and admission decisions are based on academic performance , experience and achievement of the applicant . Completed applications are reviewed on a first come , first serve basis . Admission to the program is limited due to clinical placement .
First-time Student : The requirements for a first-time student entering the University include the following :
• Completed application
• Evidence of high school graduation which can be an official transcript or a copy of their General Education Development ( GED ) tests results . The high school transcript must show satisfactory completion of High School Math ( Algebra , Calculus or Trigonometry ) and Science ( Biology and recommended Physics )
• Have a combined Math and Verbal component of the SAT exam of 1060 or higher , or an ACT score of 22 or higher ( Applicants who choose not to submit SAT and ACT test scores must provide one letter of recommendation from a high school science teacher and schedule an in-person or virtual admissions interview with the Admissions team .)
• Submit a letter of recommendation concerning the moral character of the perspective student from the school from which the applicant is enrolled or graduated from or other professional source .
• A shadow experience observation in a radiation therapy department to include a written report on the observation and its impact on the decision to enter the profession . Additionally , the therapist facilitating the shadow experience is required to complete an evaluation form on applicant . Once the requirements for admission are met , the applicant will be scheduled for an interview with radiation therapy program faculty . During this process various policies and procedures will be reviewed .
Transfer students
• The college transfer student needs to meet the admission criteria of the University and the Radiation Therapy Program .
• Complete an online application .
