NICHOLAS SELDEN is a fourth-year F / T PhD in Philosophy researching the metaphysical idealism of Mary Baker Eddy . He is the holder of five degrees so far , spanning eight subjects : computer science , electronics , pure mathematics , psychology , sociology , religious studies and philosophy , and worked as a scientist , mathematician and social scientist until before he realised that only philosophy could tackle the really interesting questions . This is Nicholas ’ second Under Construction article .
SCARLETT HUNT is a Master of Research ( social sciences ) student at Keele University . She has recently completed her undergraduate degree at Staffordshire University in Sociology . Her research interests are surrounding student mental wellbeing and how educational institutions can better support their students in relation to a range of issues . She has previously conducted and assisted with various research projects and have worked with a range of individuals , including young people , substance misusers , offenders and members of the local community . After my degree , Scarlett hopes to pursue a career that will allow me to support students in an educational setting .
EDWARD HARDIMAN is a first year history PhD student at Keele being supervised by Dr Nicholas Seager , Professor Alannah Tomkins , and Robert Baxter head archivist at Carlisle Archives . He has a BA in history from the University of Hull and an MA in Early Modern History from The University of York . His PhD focuses on the private coded diaries of the barrister Andrew Hudleston ( 1734-1822 ). Hudleston spends much of his time writing about his life and experiences both in London and Cumbria , therefore the thesis will focus on sociability in Britain between 1770-1795 .
LOUISE JONES ( BA Hons , MSc ) is a PhD candidate at Keele University researching in Media and Culture . Her most recent work is on Conflict Images and ‘ privileged status ’ of various media forms in reporting on war and conflicts .
