1 Review of ‘Chick Corea Trio’ Trilogy (Concord, 2014) Jason Balzarano (PhD/GTA Music, Keele University) Chick Corea is an artist who, in his sixth decade of producing recorded works, continues to push the genre defined boundaries of jazz and classical music, and re-imagine the myriad of elements associated with the fusion idiom. His 2014 offering for Concord Jazz, Trilogy, working with his current trio of Christian McBride (bass) and Brian Blade (drums), is a three CD retrospective and reinvention of many classic jazz standards, original works, and a foray into Alexander Scriabin added for good measure. Corea’s global appeal is on display here with a collection of live recordings from around the world, complete with audible recognition after every separate performance that never seems to waiver in its energy and vigour.
