especially productive. Also, selecting random points in the search space does not
produce suitable solutions. This eliminates the possibility of a genetic algorithm
being helpful in this context simply due to selecting a random number of points in the
search space and happening to eventually find a solution. It was also discovered that
the fitness bottle neck did not prove to be particularly problematic (aside from some
reservations concerning evolved MIDI instruments). This is an interesting point as
while the fitness bottleneck seems to be of great concern to those working in the field
of evolutionary music, it does not seem to be a major problem in practice.
3. Implementation
The software consists of an interface implemented in MAX, a genetic algorithm
implemented in FTM8 & Max, and the synthesis and processing modules (Figure 2).
