B
oland Cellar is proud to announce the release of
its highly anticipated Reserve No. 1 Chenin Blanc
Unwooded 2014.
The 2014 vintage maintains the Chenin Blanc
excellence for which the Paarl winery has become
renowned. As Champion Chenin Blanc at the 2014 SA
Young Wine Show (the oldest wine competition in South
Africa), it follows in the footsteps of its predecessors,
earning Boland Cellar the prize for the sixth time and
retaining its title as the most awarded cellar in the
category. It also scooped the coveted General Smuts
Trophy for overall SA Champion Young Wine – the
highest honour to be bestowed upon a young wine (it is
the first Chenin to receive the sought-after award since
its inauguration in 1952).
“The Paarl region produces some of the best Chenin
Blanc wines in South Africa, and after meticulous
viticulture practices and hard work in our vineyard we are
seeing the results in the cellar,” says Winemaker Bernard
Smuts. “The Boland Cellar team is very proud to have won
the General Smuts Trophy for the second time in six years,
and winning it with a Chenin Blanc for the first time in
the competition history makes it very special. Well done
team!” he adds.
This elegant Chenin Blanc is the deserved flagship white
cultivar in Boland Cellar’s portfolio. The wine shows an
exceptional expression of the variety, with the perfect
balance between prominent litchi and deep guava flavours
on the palate. Its award-worthy quality is the result of
a combination of Loire-style winemaking, extended
fermentation and longer lees contact.
A great summer sip, it pairs well with seafood, chicken
or a light salad. It is available from Boland Cellar for
R59.50 per bottle.
